NTSB Reports Four Bolts Missing from Boeing 737 Max 9 Panel

Agency finalizes report after door panel blew off mid-flight.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) released its report this week on the midair blowout of a Boeing 737 Max 9 emergency door in January, stating that four bolts that would hold the door in place were missing from the plane’s exterior. They found that there was no ripping damage where the bolts would be located.

The agency discovered that the door plug, originally installed by a Kansas contractor, was removed for repairs to damaged fuselage rivets. According the evidence from Boeing, the bolts for the door were not reinstalled once the work was finished.

Boeing President and CEO Dave Calhoun accepted culpability for the incident after the NTSB published the report. He said, “Whatever final conclusions are reached, Boeing is accountable for what happened. An event like this must not happen on an airplane that leaves our factory. We simply must do better for our customers and their passengers.”

As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…

  • For Chair Jennifer Homendy to be led by God as she oversees the NTSB.
  • For FAA officials as they seek to ensure the safety of airplanes and air travel.
